Beautiful vintage photo of a young Indian wrestler training with an exercise gada, a heavy round stone attached to the end of a meter-long bamboo stick.
The ancient sport of kushti held great importance in Indian societies. Boys aspired to be accepted into an akhada, a kind of wrestling hostel where they devoted themselves to the sport. Their only training attire is the kowpeenam or loincloth.
