DRUM Magazine, Sex in Perspective

October 1964, Vol IV, No. 8

5 1/4" x 8 1/2", 36 pages.

Although it is Vol. IV, No. 8, the message from the editor states: "You are about the read the first issue of DRUM Magazine. Drum's success would come from a bold mix of gay culture in news, erotica, fiction and humor.

Based in Philadelphia, DRUM was published monthly starting in 1964 by the homophile activist group the Janus Society. DRUM took its title from a quote by Henry David Thoreau: "If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears the beat of a different drummer."

This issue includes a couple poorly reproduced photos but fascinating articles including "A Guide To Rational Homosexuality" by Albert Ellis, Ph.D. and "HR-5990" by Frank Kameny.

Near fine condition.
