Rare vintage photo by Crawford Barton of actor Paul Winfield in a sailboat on San Francisco Bay. Winfield was an American TV, film and stage actor. His portrayal of a Louisiana sharecropper who struggles to support his family during the Great Depression in Sounder (1972) earned him an Academy Award nomination.
He died of a heart attack in 2004 at age 64. Winfield and his partner of 30 years, architect Charles Gillan Jr. are interred together at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles.
