What do we know about this pair?
One of them is named “Art.” His message, written with angular exuberance: "Everything’s OK" and "Getting along fine."
Art mailed it from Toledo Illinois to Mrs. Helen M. Rodger of Villa Grove Il, ℅ H. Mcgrath at 8 PM June 12, 1908.
Those are the facts. The image is anything but cut and dry.
Unlike most studio portraits, it’s brimming with life, so much so the guys can’t stand still for the camera. Somebody made a joke. One reacted with a sort of knowing grin. The other a broader smile. Though their faces and neckties wobble from the motion, their expressions are clear.
It’s a spontaneous moment for two guys who are literally very close to each other. Hats pushed back, hands in pockets, they stand before a romantic garden backdrop, radiating a casual charm.
Are they brothers? Pals? Very good friends? What don’t we know about this pair!
Vintage Real Photo postcard, 3 1/2" x 5", in very good condition.
