The Carl Van Vechten Photograph Collection at the University of Chicago Library holds six photos of Sandor Szabo.

Carl van Vechten (1880-1964) was an American photographer and writer, a music and dance critic for The New York Times, and a patron of the most prominent members of the Harlem Renaissance.

In the 1930s he began taking portrait photographs. Among his gay subjects were Christopher Isherwood, Truman Capote, Philip Johnson, and many male nudes. When Gertrude Stein died, Van Vechten became her literary executor, bringing into print many of her unpublished works.

Although he was married to women for most of his adult life, Van Vechten engaged in numerous homosexual affairs over his lifetime.
