Manuel Mejías Jiménez known as "Manolo Bienvenida,” was born November 23, 1912 in Dos Hermanas, Spain.
He was the eldest son of Manuel Mejías Rapela "Bienvenida" matador de toros, nephew of José Mejias Rapela "Bienvenida" banderillero, and grandson of Manuel Mejias Luján "Bienvenida" banderillero. Considered one of the best matadors in the history of bullfighting, in large part due to his physical abilities, but also to the education he received from his father: the "Papa Negro" ("Black Pope”).
He died in San Sebastián, Spain on August 31, 1938 (from a lung sacroma, not a bull).
