John Pesek, AKA "The Nebraska Tiger Man," developed a reputation as a fierce and masterful "hooker" (a wrestler who could inflict serious pain and twist opponents into agonizing submission holds).
His legacy is largely defined by a refusal to conform to the new rules of the industry. During the 1920s, a powerful "wrestling trust" led by stars like Ed "Strangler" Lewis began scripting match outcomes.
Pesek despised this system and frequently refused to cooperate, but his skill was undeniable and he was declared the World Heavyweight Champion by various promotions throughout the 1930s.
