John Klamik was a cartoonist and gay activist. Born in Chicago where he studied at the Art Institute, he moved to West Hollywood in the mid-1960s and started his cartooning career. During the next three decades, as "Shawn", he contributed cartoons to mainstream gay newspapers and magazines and, as "Sean" to more "specialized" publications. Here's a very interesting interview with Klamik by Jean-Paul Jennequin.
