Fine original gouache drawing on heavyweight "Papeteries F. Barjon" paper attributed to Fernand Niedergang (1920-1981, died in Paris). His name translated from German means "decline, descent, decadence," which is either a startling coincidence or a creative persona.
Papeteries F. Barjon was a French paper manufacturer from the late 16th century until 1977. It was highly celebrated in the mid-20th century for its premium wove paper which was frequently chosen for art books and fine art.
This 12 3/4" x 9 1/4" drawing carries the embossed mark: "Moirans Isère - Papeteries F. Barjon" along the left edge with Niedergang's name in pencil on verso.
