Baltimore Portraits, by Amos Badertscher.

These portraits, often accompanied by hand-written bios, reveal the Baltimore John Waters made famous: Bar and street people, transvestites, strippers, drug addicts, drag queens, and hustlers. From the mid-1970s to the mid-90s. Badertscher’s photographs document a culture that has virtually disappeared due to substance abuse, AIDS and neglect.

An introduction by Tyler Curtain places the photos within the city's queer subculture and in relation to work by Nan Goldin, Robert Mapplethorpe, Cindy Sherman and Duane Michaels.

Published in association with the Duke University Museum of Art.

Paperback, 112 pages, 12" x 13."
